On an exchange board you will usually see two prices for each currency: the buy rate and the sell rate.

Buy rate

The buy rate is the PKR amount the exchange company pays when it purchases foreign currency from you. If you are selling USD, you look at the buy column.

Sell rate

The sell rate is the PKR amount you pay when you purchase foreign currency from the exchange. If you need USD for travel, you look at the sell column.

Why there is a difference

The gap between buy and sell is the spread. It covers operating costs, inventory risk, and service across the branch network. Competitive open-market boards keep this spread transparent.
